Are you NICEIC approved?
Yes. Redfern is a NICEIC Approved Contractor (enrolment 6042178) and Part P registered, so all of our work is certified and notified to building control where it needs to be. We are happy to show our ID and registration on the doorstep.
What is an EICR and do I need one?
An EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) is a full safety check of your fixed wiring. Homeowners are advised to have one every ten years, and since 2020 it is a legal requirement for landlords every five years. We carry them out, give you a clear pass or fail, and quote separately for any remedial work.
How much disruption does a rewire cause?
Less than most people fear. We plan the job room by room, lift carpets and floorboards carefully, chase walls neatly and sheet up as we go. A typical three-bed takes most of a week, and we make good after so you are not left with a building site.
Can you help with the EV charger grant?
Yes. We are OZEV-approved installers, so where you are eligible (for example flat owners and renters under the current scheme) we sort the grant paperwork for you and take it off the price. We will tell you honestly up front whether you qualify.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. We do not charge to come out and quote, and there is no obligation to go ahead. You get a fixed written price and you decide from there. For booked work the price we quote is the price you pay.
How fast can you get to an emergency?
We run a 24/7 emergency line and a real person answers it, day or night. For a total loss of power, burning smells or exposed live wiring across our core area we aim to be with you within a couple of hours.
The family behind Redfern
A proper local firm, run by people who answer the phone
Redfern started in 2011 when Gary Redfern packed in agency work and put his own name on the van. Over a decade on, it is still family-run. Gary still leads on the bigger rewires, his son Jack heads up EV chargers and smart home work, and every electrician who pulls up in a Redfern van is on our own books, not a sub-contractor.
We built this firm on a simple idea: turn up when you say you will, charge what you quoted, and treat someone's home the way you would treat your own. That is why most of our work comes from word of mouth across Stockport, Bramhall and the Cheshire villages.
We are a NICEIC Approved Contractor, Part P registered and fully insured, but the thing customers tell us they value most is just that we pick up the phone, explain things plainly and do what we said we would.
